OTIF (On-Time In-Full)
A shipper service metric scoring whether a delivery arrived within its appointment window with the complete ordered quantity — often enforced with per-failure chargebacks.
How it works — and why it matters
Large retailers popularized OTIF as a compliance program: suppliers and their carriers are scored on the percentage of deliveries that hit the appointment window in full, with fines assessed per failing shipment or per point below target. The 'on-time' half of the metric is where carriers live or die, and it is graded against the appointment, not against effort.
OTIF changed the economics of visibility: knowing a load will be late hours in advance converts a chargeback into a manageable exception — the appointment gets moved, the receiver warned, the penalty often waived. That is why accurate, early ETAs and automated status updates are increasingly a commercial requirement for hauling scored freight, not a nice-to-have.
