Predictive ETA
An arrival estimate computed from the operational context around a load — driver hours of service, traffic, facility dwell history, and appointment windows — not just the truck's current position and remaining distance.
How it works — and why it matters
A distance-based ETA answers 'how far away is the truck?'; a predictive ETA answers 'when will this load actually arrive, given how this operation runs?' The difference shows up when a mandatory 10-hour driver break lands mid-route, a receiver is running three hours behind, or afternoon traffic sits on the remaining miles — conditions a GPS dot alone can't see but that routinely move arrivals by hours.
Predictive ETA is a data-integration problem before it is a math problem: position lives in telematics, driving hours in the ELD, appointments in the TMS, and dwell history in past shipment records. Its practical payoff is early warning — loads that will miss their window get flagged while recovery (repower, reschedule, notify) is still possible, and loads that are fine get their customer updates sent automatically.
